Principal Global Investors is one of the world’s biggest asset managers, with assets under management of USD 476.4 billion (31 December 2019). Based in Des Moines, Iowa, the US company has had a branch in Switzerland for more than three years. It has entrusted open up with its Swiss media relations.

Principal Global Investors (PGI) manages assets on behalf of a wide range of investors from more than 80 countries. The company employs 1,800 people worldwide, include 500 investment specialists. PGI’s Zurich office is headed by Martin Bloch.

In Switzerland, Principal Global Investors manages assets for public and private pension funds, banks, foundations and insurance companies. Operating as a multi-boutique manager, PGI has a series of investment boutiques that work independently and execute clearly defined investment philosophies. They include Finisterre Capital and its total return strategy for emerging market bonds, and Spectrum Asset Management, an established manager of preferred securities. Added to this are various real estate boutiques specialising in debt and equity holdings, both public and private.

“Switzerland is an important market for us. We’re on a growth track. People like the fact that while we’re independent and are not trend-followers, we act consistently,” says Martin Bloch, Managing Director of PGI in Switzerland.
