Science education in schools in South Africa is becoming more interactive and engaging through the introduction of the international Experimento programme.
Experimento is an open source education initiative from the Siemens Stiftung that rethinks how students engage with science.
The programme’s experiments and training are based on thorough academic research. The South African programme has yielded insights ranging from the importance of building teachers’ confidence, to how to adapt experiments for under-resourced schools. Experimento teaches cooperative learning, tapping into students’ curiosity and improving their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Proof Africa facilitates stakeholder relations for Experimento in South Africa, and is currently writing a communication strategy for expanding Experimento’s reach.
